Lagos State Government yesterday said planned repairs of Eko Bridge would commence next weekend, explaining however that it would not necessitate total closure but a phased partial closure at each expansion joint location.
Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa, who announced this in Ikeja, said the state government through the state Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, was part of the ongoing replacement expansion joint of bridges across the state.
According to Opeifa, the project awarded to one of the leading construction firms, would commence work on Eko Bridge in Surulere/Lagos Island Local Government Area for a period of 71 days beginning from Saturday August 23rd, 2014 to Monday, October 27th, 2014.
He however, appealed to motorists and other road users to exercise caution and cooperate with workers on the road by obeying all traffic regulations and ensure traffic flow during the maintenance period.
"Finally, the state government while regretting any inconvenience has directed all relevant agencies to ensure free flow of traffic." Opeifa assured.
Fashola commissions Tejuosho market today
Gov Fashola of Lagos State also will today commission the first phase of the popular Tejuosho Market, gutted by fire seven years ago.
The commissioning is coming six years after the reconstruction of the market started under a 25-year Build, Operate and Transfer, BOT lease agreement.
Vanguard gathered that the reconstructed Tejuosho Market which now has over 4,000 shop space with lock up and K-Clamp shops, is located along the Ojuolegba-Itire Road, Yaba would be commissioned and open for commercial activities.
As against its old structure, the market has two-level parking spaces, explaining that there are 537 spaces at the basement, 57 spaces up and about 100 spaces outside for customers and other visitors to the complex.
The market was gutted by fire in 2007.
